In this video, we're going to show you step by step how to remove both tail lamp assemblies on the left rear of this 2002 Camry. Now, the tools that we're going to be using for the tail lamp assemblies on that Toyota. Our Philips screwdriver, a series of different size extensions, a 10 millimeter socket and a ratchet. And the fasteners are located inside. We've got some plastic trim covers we've got to take off. And we've also got a beauty cover on the inside of the trunk lid that has to be removed as well. Now, the three fasteners for the tail lamp mounted on the vehicle are right here. We've got a Phillips here, here and here. Now, there's something special about these fasteners. They're not your typical Philips screw. Now, if you look at the fastener, you would think that all you need to do is put a Phillips screwdriver in and back at all. That's not how it works. The whole assembly actually spans. The trick here is to hold your finger on the outer edge. Twist that Philips screw no more in about a quarter turn and it pops out. Now you can grab it, wiggle and remove the complete fastener and just repeat the same process. And now for that final fastener, I would just grab that panel, pull it away from the back of the vehicle. So now we've got that plastic trim panel. We've now got access to the back of the tail lamp assembly. And as you can see, we've got a total of 310. Notes that we've got to back off one electrical connector. And one thing to point out is over a period of time, the plastic can get dry and brittle.
So when you try to take these connectors apart, there's a possibility they may break. So just take your time and be careful. Squeeze in under lock and we go free. So now we can go ahead and jump over to those 310. Nuts So the fastener is loose. We can go ahead with one hand on the outside holding the lamp assembly and one on the inside. We'll try pushing it through. And when it comes to that tail amp assembly that's located on the trunk, we've got this cover that we've partially got to remove to get to the fasteners on the back side. Now, the fasteners that hold the cover on are the exact same ones that we were dealing with when it came to that tail lamp assembly mounted on the vehicle. So grab your fill up screwdriver. Hold out a ring like we did earlier. Twist it till the centerpiece pops out. Grab it, pull it off. And now we're going to repeat it on the remaining six. Now, if that cover were removed, we've got access to all of the fastener who got a total of 410 millimeter around the perimeter that we've got to take off. We've got two electrical connectors. We've got to release some of the connectors. It's the same Warning I gave you before about them being drawn brittle. Just be careful. Person on the lock. Slide it off on that final connector. Just repeat the same process.
So grab a 10 millimeter socket extension and ratchet if you start taking them loose. And the last time we got to remove is this one right here on the outer corner. Now that we've got all the fasteners removed, we're ready to go ahead and take it all. And using one hand, grasp for the lamp assembly on the outside, from the inside, start pushing to get freed up. And once you get it, push through. Now use your other hand, grab the assembly, take it off the vehicle. And here's a tip. When it comes to dealing with the tail amp assemblies on the trunk with and sealed to the sheet metal using two foam pads. And if they're still in good shape, feel free to use them that they're dried, deteriorated, rotted. Make sure to replace them. All you got to do is pull them off.
