HOW TO REMOVE A RADIATOR FAN FROM A VOLKSWAGEN

This guide is for 1999-2006 VW Golf, 1999-2005 VW Golf GTI, and 1998-2005 VW Beetle models

Pull Tip: Following Engine types may have a similar removal process: 1.8t, Diesel, VR6

Instructions

  • 1

    Start by removing the two air duct pieces by unscrewing the Phillips screws on the top

  • 2

    Take off the three 10mm nuts that hold the fan to the bracket

  • 3

    Now that the fan is loose, you only need to take out the top two T30 screws

  • 4

    Undo the wire loom from its retainer

  • 5

    Pull the connector out of the retainer for the connector and then disconnect the connector

  • 6

    Pull the retaining bracket for the fan back and work the fan out

Hey everybody, Charles from humblemechanic.com, back with another DIY and drive tutorial with pull-apart used auto parts. Today, I'm going to be showing you how to remove an electric fan from a Volkswagen. The tools that we're going to need for this job is going to be a Phillips head screwdriver, a T30, a 10-millimeter socket, a ratchet, and a magnet is really helpful for this job. We're going to start by removing the two air ducting pieces. Now, one was removed for us, so we only need to remove this one. Next, we're going to take off the three 10-millimeter nuts that holds the fan to the bracket, and finally, the last Now that our fan is loose, we need to take out only the top two T30's. Now we need to undo the wire loom from its retainer, so we're going to pull that out. We're going to pull the connector out of the retainer for the connector, and then disconnect the connector. And finally, we just go ahead, pull the retaining bracket for the fan back, and work the fan out.
