HOW TO REMOVE AN A/C COMPRESSOR FROM A CHEVY SILVERADO

Hey, what's up guys? This is Brian from the YouTube channel Classic G-Body Garage and today I'm going to do a DIY and drive tutorial with Pull-A-Part Used Auto Parts.

All right, I'm going to go ahead and remove this air conditioning compressor on this 2001 Chevy Silverado and it's held down by four bolts and those are 15 millimeter bolts, four of them there. We have a 15 millimeter bolt here on the top that hold the AC lines on. You don't have to worry about the AC R134 freon spewing out into the atmosphere, because here at Pull-A-Part, they go ahead and remove that before the vehicle hits the yard, and then we also have a 13 millimeter bolt right here or that bracket, and then we also have the belt that goes around the pulley in the front. The belt has already been removed. It's held down by the tension of the idler pulley. I went ahead and removed the alternator previously, so if you want to check out how to remove the belt, check out that video.

So the belt is already loose, so let me go ahead and remove that and let me go ahead and get my tools and start removing all of the bolts here. The tools you'll need to remove the AC compressor off of the Silverado is a 15 and 30 millimeter socket and a 3/8 inch ratchet and extension. All right, I'm going to go ahead and remove the AC lines for starters here on the top and it sounds like there might be just a little bit of remaining air trapped in the system, but that's usually what happens. You'll want to go ahead and retain the bolts that you remove from the vehicles that your point parts from because you might need those bolts when it comes time to put your parts back on your vehicle.

So next I'm going to remove the four main bolts that are holding the compressor down. All right, that's loose, that one's loose, the lines are loose, the back one's loose, now the last front one here. All right, that is loose as well and we should be pretty much loose here, which we are so I'm going to go ahead and pull these bolts out and put them aside. Now, the last thing we have to do-- or one of the last things to grab that bracket off the side here. That is off, and finally, we have the plug here at the top. That's just hold on by a couple of tabs. You pull both sides. Might have to get a screwdriver in here. There we go. Go ahead and pull that off of there and that looks to be about it. Oh, we still have a plug here on the backside. Let's go ahead and pull that off of there.

All right, so there you go. There is your AC compressor removed from a 2001 Chevy Silverado. All right, we've got the AC compressor removed and all it took was a couple of bolts.
